MUMBAI: Five hundred
doctors, who earlier this year enrolled for postgraduate courses at
Parel’s College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPS), can breathe easy.
More than a month after the Maharashtra
Medical Council said it would not recognize CPS courses, the state government on Tuesday worked out a solution. Henceforth, CPS will recruit students on the basis of the MHCET-PG exam (entrance test for postgraduate seats), said medical
education secretary Manisha Mhaiskar.
“The MMC felt there was no transparency in CPS admissions and exams,” she added. In 2013, MMC issued a show-cause notice to CPS, asking why its courses should be recognized given the lack of transparency. In June, the council announced it would no longer recognize CPS courses. The CPS students were assured on Tuesday that their admission would not be affected.
