FCRI conducts counselling

1,672 candidates apply for 60 seats

Tamil Nadu Fisheries University (TNFU) conducted counselling sessions at Fisheries College and Research Institute (FCRI) here on Monday.

Baskaran Manimaran, Vice-Chancellor of TNFU, presided over the programme. The counselling was organised for admission to B. F.Sc (Bachelor of Fisheries Science) programme offered at FCRI in Tuticorin and in Institute of Fisheries Technology (IFT) in Ponneri, Tiruvallur district.

Dr. Manimaran told media persons that the university received 1,672 applications for 60 seats — 40 at FCRI and 20 at Institute of Fisheries Technology. In the first counselling session, 360 candidates were invited. The cut-off marks under different categories were: 192.25 for the open category, 189.75 for Backward Class, 175 for Backward Class-Muslim, 189 for Most Backward Class and De-notified communities, 179 for Scheduled Caste and 171 for Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyar). Counselling for special categories such as sports quota, children of ex-servicemen, differently abled and vocational stream was also conducted.

The Vice-Chancellor handed over admission letters to top 10 candidates of academic stream in the presence of G. Sugumar, Dean (in charge) of FCRI. Subsequently, he issued admission letters to candidates admitted under other categories.

S.A. Shanmugam, Controller of Examinations (in charge), said the academic programme for 2014-15 would begin on August 20.
