Rekha was admitted with 50% burns to MY Hospital's burn unit where she died at 6 am on Sunday, sub-inspector in charge of Pithampur police outpost in Dhar district, RN Mishra told TOI.
According to Mishra, Rekha's father Moti Singh, a retired head constable died in June 2014, and since then she was living with her husband Vijay Chowdhary, twins and widowed sister Sunita at her father's house in Akolia village.
Rekha's stepbrother Dipak Singh, 45, who is an employee at a government hospital in Dhar and lives with family in Naugaon-Dhar, was repeatedly pressuring stepsisters Sunita and Rekha to vacate the house, that is valued at around Rs 4 lakh. However, despite sustained pressure by Dipak the two women held on and continued living there, he said.

"In her dying declaration, Rekha said Dipak along with wife Antu Bai, son Shyam, sisters Ganga and Tulsi, brother-in-law Lal Singh came in two vehicles to her house and asked Sunita, Rekha and others to vacate the house immediately," the sub-inspector said.
Angered by Rekha's refusal to vacate the house, Dipak dragged her out of the house and with the help of five others and set her on fire after pouring kerosene on her.
"Investigations revealed that Dipak and his kin wanted to kill all four, including Rekha, Vijay, Sunita, and the couple's twin sons, but owing to police fear they fled away," Mishra added.
Raids are now being conducted to arrest Dipak and five others who have been booked for murder, but they are on the run, the sub-inspector said.
