Man thrashed for objecting to cruel treatment of dog in Delhi
Uday Wig was mercilessly beaten up by five men after he objected to a dog being mistreated.

Five men mercilessly thrashed a 41-year-old builder in South Delhi's Nizamuddin Basti area after he had a heated argument with them following his objection to their cruelty to a stray dog.

The incident took place on July 29 when Faridabad-resident Uday Wig was returning from the Hazrat Nizamuddin dargah after distributing food among the poor.

"After returning from dargah, I sat in my Hyundai Elantra car parked near the Barakhamba Park in Nizamuddin Basti area. I was about to leave the spot when I heard a canine in pain. There was a man who had caught hold of the stray's hind legs and wild swinging the canine in the air," the South Delhi based builder told Mail Today.

The incident occurred when the businessman was returning from Hazrat Nizamuddin dargah after distributing food.

The victim immediately asked his driver Palvender Singh to stop the car. "After stepping out, I asked the youth to stop the act. But the youth got angry and started shouting at me. When I objected, he abused me and entered into a heated argument," Wig claimed Corroborating the incident, a senior police officer of South-East district said that the heated argument between the two sides turned ugly and the accused started shoving Wig. The man was joined by his four accomplices who, in turn, started to assault the builder.

"They started slapping the builder who fell on the road after losing balance. They thrashed him mercilessly at the spot. The brawl lasted for nearly 15 minutes before the victim's driver along with two beat constables came to his rescue," the officer added.

After rescuing the victim, the police constables advised the driver to take Wig to a hospital immediately. Singh drove Wig to the Asian Hospital in Faridabad where doctors attended on the latter's injuries on his face and nose.

Later, Wig approached the police and registered a complaint against the five men. "On the basis of the victim's statement, a case was registered under Sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 323 (causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (crime with a common intent) of the IPC and several sections of the Cruelty of Animal Act at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station," the officer said.

After registering the complaint, sleuths arrested two locals - Mohammed Islam and Firoz - from their residences in connection with the incident. The remaining two absconding men will be traced soon, the officer added.
