N.K. Patil, judge, High Court of Karnataka, has expressed concern over malnutrition and the increase in the number of school dropouts in the country.
He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Arivu-Neravu’, a programme focussing on child malnutrition and bringing dropouts to schools, here on Sunday.
Report submitted Mr. Patil said the High Court had taken cognisance of malnutrition in the State and constituted a committee which studied the issue and submitted a report with recommendations. “We have to take steps to see that these recommendations are implemented and the children are benefited,” he stressed.
He said children were considered the “wealth of a nation” and yet were suffering from malnutrition and illiteracy. The programme was organised by the Karnataka Legal Services Authority in association with the Mysore Zilla Panchayat, district administration, Women and Child Development Department, the Mysore Bar Association and the Department of Public Instruction.
Principal District and Sessions Judge K.S. Mudgal, who is also the chairman of the Mysore District Legal Services Authority, Ashok G. Nijagannanavar, Member Secretary, Karnataka Legal Services Authority, Bangalore, Deputy Commissioner-in-charge S. Palaiah, and Mysore Bar Association President H.V.S. Murthy were present. An exhibition on nutritious food was held alongside the workshop.
