700MW solar power plant to be launched in Madhya Pradesh

India’s largest ultra- mega solar power plant (UMSPP) is coming up in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, announced government officials.

The state government will establish the plant in a joint venture with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Power Grid Corporation and the Solar Energy Corporation of India.

The plant will have capacity to produce 700 MW of electricity. The initial investment for the set up will be Rs4,000 crore, said, S R Mohanty, additional chief secretary, new and renewable energy, Madhya Pradesh told PTI.

The electricity produced by plant will be sold at Rs5.40 paisa per unit, the lowest amount available in the country, Mohanty said.

Massive land spread over Barseta, Ramnagar, Latar and Badwaar has been chosen as the location for the plant in Gurh tehsil of Rewa, which is the home district of state energy minister Rajendra Shukla.

Neemuch district of the state has the country’s biggest solar plant producing a capacity of 130 MW.

The government is promoting renewable energy generation by providing fiscal and financial incentives such as capital and interest subsidy, concessional excise and customs duties to promote investors to invest in renewable energy sector, stated, Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Renewable Energy.

Further, ultra -mega solar power projects are planned in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. 1 MW of solar photovoltaic power project produces around 1.6 million units of electricity annually, Minister said.
