Two-year-old boy killed in wall collapse in Udupi district

The family of a two-year-old child, who died after a wall collapsed at his house in Bangalegudde in Karkala due to incessant rain, received a cheque of Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation from the government on Saturday. Sai Bhuvan was killed on Thursday.

MANGALORE: The family of a two-year-old child, who died after a wall collapsed at his house in Bangalegudde in Karkala due to incessant rain, received a cheque of Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation from the government on Saturday. Sai Bhuvan was killed on Thursday.
Udupi district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, accompanied by deputy commissioner Muddu Mohan and Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, visited the spot and handed over the cheque to parents of the deceased.

Till 8.30am on Saturday, Hebri in Karkala taluk of Udupi district recorded maximum rainfall of 212mm in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, according to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, Bangalore. The meteorological department has stated that strong onshore winds from westerly direction with a speed occasionally reaching 45kmph to 55kmph is likely along and off the Karnataka coast during the next 24 hours.
With intensity of rain tapering off in Dakshina Kannada, life was relatively unaffected across the district. District police control room said water level at the two major bridges, leading to the temple town of Kukke Subrahmanya at Hosamatta, and across Kumaradhara near Kukke temple, had receded drastically since Friday.
Water level of Nethravathi in Bantwal as on Saturday stood at 7.4 metres, well below the danger mark of 8.5 metres. At Uppinangady, the water level of Nethravathi stood at 22 metres against danger mark of 29.5. Water level in Kumaradhara at Uppinangady stood at 22 metres against the danger level of 28.5 metres. Local administration in these areas is keeping a watch on the situation.
