BHUBANESWAR: Abhinaya Jagruti Institute of Theatre (AJIT), a city-based theatre organization, will stage noted poet Gangadhar Meher's famous epic 'Tapaswini' on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary at Rabindra Mandap on Sunday.
"Ever since they have bitten by the internet bug, today's youth are no longer interested in reading the timeless stories and classics written in the Odia language.
Even the school textbooks don't contain these stories anymore. We have always been promoting classic Odia stories through theatre and the 'Tapaswini' epic is one of the most popular writings in Odia," said founder of the theatre group Ajit Das.
The script of the play has been written by noted dramatist Bijay Mishra while Ajit Das has directed the play. The music to the play was composed by Bijay Jena and Tapas Das.
"We tried to depict the post-banishment episode of Sita in the ashram of sage Valmiki and the prevailing sentiments. The Ramayan-based literary composition has been presented with originality and innovation," said Das.
AJIT had earlier presented popular stories like 'Budha Sankhari', 'Rebati', 'Sasti', 'Nataka Chitrakar', 'Malhajanha' and 'Jayadeba' at the theatre over the years.
On this occasion, the 9th Sudhibidya Award -2014 will be given to noted dance and music director Gopikrushna Behera.
