AMU accords warm welcome to CWG winners Jitu, Gurpal

The officials of Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), Madhya Pradesh accorded a warm welcome to Glasgow Commonwealth Games medal winners when they arrived at the unit in Mhow on Friday.

Mhow: The officials of Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), Madhya Pradesh accorded a warm welcome to Glasgow Commonwealth Games medal winners when they arrived at the unit in Mhow on Friday. Nb Sub Jitu Rai clinched gold in 50-meter free pistol event while Nb Sub Gurpal Singh won silver medal in the same event.
A team of AMU led by Sub Maj CK Chowdhry reached Indore airport to receive the medal winners.
AMU commanding officer Col Lalit Sharma and officials of all ranks welcomed the promising shooters and felicitated them.
Talking to ToI, 26-year-old Rai said though he was confident of victory, he wasn't sure about creating a new Commonwealth record. He said that due to the consecutive victories in three world shooting championships, his morale was very high which helped him carve a niche in the Commonwealth.
Talking about his future plans, Rai said that he now aims for an outstanding performance in world championship to be held in Spain from September 19 to 25.
Gurpal Singh said, "Though I had won silver medal, yet I'm happy that Jitu Rai won gold in the event. We not only practiced together but also shared the room."
