Girl attacked with acid by jilted lover

A 20-year-old newly married girl was attacked with acid in Kanshiram Colony under the limits of Civil Lines police station of Etawah, the home district of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, here on Friday.

KANPUR: A 20-year-old newly married girl was attacked with acid in Kanshiram Colony under the limits of Civil Lines police station of Etawah, the home district of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, here on Friday.
The girl has been admitted to regional medical institute with severe burns while the accused has been booked for attempt to murder.
The police have identified the accused as Imran, who too is a resident of Kanshiram locality of the district.

The accused allegedly threw acid on the girl Rubana (name changed) while she was standing near her parent's house. The police said that the victim has been admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (RIMSR) in Saifai with serious burns on her face and other parts of the body.
The girl had recently come to visit her parents from her in-laws place. Etawah SSP Dinesh Kumar said, "The accused will be caught soon as raids are underway after the incident took place at around 3 pm on Friday. "The victim had told us about the accused, Imran. Cops are conducting raids at his possible hideouts," the SSP said.
The police said that Imran had been harassing the girl since the past four years. He had even proposed her for marriage but she had spurned her offer. "When the girl got married to another youth recently, Imran planned to attack her in revenge," said the police officer. "The owner of shop from where accused had purchased the acid will also be booked and sent to jail. The doctors attending to the girl said her eyes have been severely damaged. She had received 50% burns in the attack as her face and upper part of the body were severely burnt," the police said.

Incidentally, the Uttar Pradesh government had announced providing free medical treatment to all acid attack victims. All the medical education institutions of the state, state medical colleges, SGPGI Lucknow, RIMS Saifai, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia institute of medical sciences in Lucknow, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and King George's Medical University have been nominated for providing 100% free medical treatment to acid attack victims. The treatments include plastic surgery, corrective surgery and psychological treatment.
Medical treatment for acid attack victims, including plastic surgery by trained and experienced doctors, is not available in government medical colleges of the state. In such circumstances, acid victims could get plastic surgery treatment and other specialized treatment in SGPGI and KGMU after getting first aid at nearby medical college.
