A young woman from Calgary was left shaken but uninjured following a harrowing incident on the QEII Highway near Innisfail on Friday afternoon.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m., RCMP members were dispatched to a location just north of the town of Innisfail following reports of a single vehicle crash.

According to RCMP, the driver of a southbound sedan lost control of her vehicle after attempting to avoid a large piece of rubber from a blown semi tire. The car entered the ditch and struck the base of the Highway 590 sign.

The 23-year-old woman was wearing her seatbelt and the vehicle’s air bags deployed. The driver was assessed at the scene but she did not suffer any injuries in the crash.

RCMP officers have ruled out speed and alcohol as contributing factors in the collision.
