NEW DELHI: Two BPO employees were arrested for online fraud in the capital on Wednesday. The two men, Kanak Gupta (24) and Atul Kumar (27), belong to Uttar Pradesh and were staying in Noida Sector 62. Through interrogations, police have pieced together what looks like the complete picture.
The two men collected details of prospective job-seekers from the internet and sent them emails for jobs in Tata Group companies.
For this, they posed as HR officials. They had also floated a fictitious company and a website for this purpose.
Once a candidate reverted to their job posting, he was asked to deposit a refundable amount in a bank account. This way, they duped several engineers and other graduates. The cyber cell downed curtains on their act by tracing their IP address following a complaint by Tata Group officials.
DCP (EoW) S D Mishra said, “The accused operated as a team. They floated a company by the name of clickyourjobs.com on fake documents and thereafter created a fake website in the same name. Gupta is a graduate in computer applications from Chitrakoot. He came to Noida in search of a job. After working at call centres for a while, he landed a job at an online job portal where he learned the tricks of the trade and went on to cheat people. Kumar had a similar story,” Mishra said.
“Some of the victims were identified and based on emails received by them, the IP log user data was compiled,” Mishra added.
