I'm proud of Gujarati culture: Apara Mehta
As Savita Virani of Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Apara Mehta was the most talked about saas on prime time television for seven long years. Apara who’s been entertaining viewers with her telly outings has made a comeback to TV soaps as a grandmom to the female protagonist. We ask her about Gujarati television and movies' poor content. And she shares, "Unless educated middle class viewers supports an entertainment industry, it can’t survive and flourish.
I feel that’s the reason why Gujarati movies and TV shows are not doing well as compared to other regional film/TV industries. The need of the hour is to revive Gujarati entertainment industry."
But she is immensely proud of being a Gujarati. Apara tells, "I’m 200 per cent Gujarati, I’m making my state proud by doing the work. Whenever I travel abroad for my Gujarati plays, people are always happy about the work we do. And I must say, major percentage of Indian television are Gujaratis and that is something to be proud of! If something good on content basis comes my way be it a Gujarati film, TV show or a play comes my way, I am going to welcome it with open arms."
