LUDHIANA: AAP leader HS Phoolka who is a senior advocate Supreme Court of India and Harinder Singh Khalsa - Member Parliament from Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, visited the riots affected areas of Saharanpur.
They interacted with the victims whose shops and other commercial establishments have been destroyed in the riots. They also interacted with the members of the communities Sikh, Muslims and also Hindu Organizations and pleaded with them to maintain peace and harmony.

Harinder Singh Khalsa, Member Parliament, informed the victims that he met Mulayam Singh Yadav, yesterday and pleaded to him that there have been cordial relations among the Sikhs and Muslims but some miscreants have stage managed these attacks. Khalsa requested Yadav that these miscreants should be identified and dealt with sternly.
Yadav assured him that the UP government will take appropriate steps. Phoolka informed the affected shop owners that the plea of the administration that no compensation for loss of commercial properties has ever been given in any riots, is absolutely wrong. Almost in every riot the compensation for commercial properties is also given.
He mentioned that in the Andhra Pradesh High Court JK Traders Vs State of Andhra Pradesh wherein the Theatre was gutted in the riots after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in 1991, Andhra Pradesh High Court granted a Compensation of Rs 1 crore for the loss suffered by the owners.
Phoolka also mentioned that Madras High Court in the Case R Gandhi Vs Union of India had directed the Tamilnadu Government to give the full compensation to the victims of Coimbatore riots in accordance with the report of the Collector of Coimbatore assessing the loss.

Phoolka also quoted from the Prime Minister Relief Package of 2006 for riots Victims in which Clause VI clearly mentioned that Compensation for loss of Commercial Properties was also given.
"Ex-gratia for damaged uninsured commercial or industrial properties would be paid @ 10 times the amount minus the amount already paid" read clause VI.
The government should immediately conduct the survey and assess the loss suffered by the victims of commercial properties, vehicles and residential houses.
The victims should not destroy the evidence and clean the shops till the survey is conducted. The government needs to take stern action and punish the guilty who have instigated this violence.
Khalsa and Phoolka have demanded that in view of the repeated incidents of commercial violence in UP, the UP government should consider getting the group insurance of the properties done. The victims should get immediate and full compensation of loss of their property.
