The Cowboys already sent out tickets for playoff games they won't host

The Dallas Cowboys, a franchise that’s finished 8-8 in three consecutive season and has hosted just two playoff games in the past 15 years, already sent out postseason tickets to season-ticket holders. That makes the Cowboys the first major American sports team to ever deliver playoff tickets before the start of the season, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell. It also makes them completely nuts, according to anyone who’s watched Jason Garrett’s team over the past three years.

Dallas sending out playoff tickets is like your buddy sending out “Save the Date” cards for his upcoming wedding to Kate Upton. There’s practicality, then there’s crazy-eyed, misguided optimism.

The move to send out tickets can be defended for said practicality, I guess. The idea is that once fans have the tickets in hand, they’ll be more compelled to fork over the pre-payment for these theoretical games. Then again, if a playoff game should happen in Dallas, those tickets should sell themselves. It’s not every year Cowboys fans get to see their team in the postseason. I mean, do you need incentive plans to sell water to a starving man in the desert?

Why stop at sending out playoff tickets? The Cowboys should offer fans the chance to lock down February hotel reservations in Glendale. Why not start mapping out the Super Bowl parade route? How about giving Tony Romo an unwieldy contract that pays him like a Super Bowl MVP? Oh, never mind, they’ve already done that.
