The campaign was arranged by PR consultancy HWB Communications in collaboration with the Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village and some of its tenants. The books were donated by local corporates, shops and members of the public, and will be used to bolster resources in the school's existing library.

"We are very grateful to everyone who contributed," said Principal Mahdi Samodien. "The books will go a long way to helping us build a culture of reading amongst our learners."

Cape Quarter Centre Manager Andrea Erwee said that they are pleased with the outcome and to have been involved in a drive that would provide children with an opportunity to have access to so many books and to improve their education.

HWB Communications CEO, Evelyn John Holtzhausen, added that everyone who participated and made a donation has helped to build a community of readers at the Prestwich Street Primary School.

"Many years ago, one of HWB's first clients gave me some sage advice: 'Always give back to the community in which you conduct your business.' I am certainly proud of the efforts made by my team, our partners and everyone who put a book in the box - thank you all!"
