Schools across the city are in a fix over the five-day Ganpati holiday demand by the Maharashtra Navanirman Vidyarthi Sena, thanks to no clear communication from the education department.

With a fixed holiday calendar, schools have to slash other holidays if they go ahead with the five-day break during Ganpati. They fear about reprisal by MNVS members if they choose to ignore the demand.

Rohit Bhatt of Children's Academy School, Kandivli, said, "We have not yet taken any decision on the five-day holiday issue, but will take a call soon."

Principal Alice Vaz of Ryan International School Kharghar said they may make one Saturday, which anyways is an off day, as part of the Ganpati break. "We want to avoid protests."

NB Chavan, deputy director of school education, said, "Schools have been give a holiday list of 75 days. It is up to them how they want to use it."
