INLD to go it alone, announces 62 names for assembly polls
CHANDIGARH: Putting all speculations to rest about its alliance with BJP, opposition INLD on Friday issued a list of 62 candidates for the upcoming Haryana assembly polls. INLD has become the first party to declare its candidates, while Congress had recently completed its process of inviting applications from ticket aspirants. BJP is claiming to declare its first list by August 20.
INLD has also stated that names of remaining 28 candidates would be declared soon. The party also clarified that it had prepared the manifesto for the assembly polls, which would be announced on Saturday. While declaring names of candidates, INLD's Haryana unit president Ashok Arora stated that the list had been declared with the approval of former chief minister and party supremo Om Prakash Chautala. Arora further stated that INLD would continue to have its alliance with SAD and distribution of seats to the latter would be taken after consultation with its leadership.
Deciding to go alone in the assembly elections, INLD has adapted the concept of social engineering for the distribution of tickets. Of the 62 candidates declared on Friday, the party has given tickets to 18 Jats, 10 women, 13 from scheduled castes, three Sikhs, two Muslims, five from ?Vaish' community, five Punjabis, three Yadavs and one each from other communities.
INLD has also decided to field party's face from backward class (BC) community, Ranbir Singh Prajapat, from Nalwa constituency. He is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha. Out of 62 candidates, whose names were declared on Friday, 18 are sitting MLAs while tickets to three sitting MLAs have been denied. Senior INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala said the candidates had been selected after inviting a panel of at least five candidates from each constituency and considering their ability to win.
INLD awaiting decision on Chautala, Ajay
Source said INLD was awaiting decision of the appeal of its senior leaders Om Prakash Chautala and Ajay Singh Chautala against their conviction in JBT teachers' recruitment scam for the release of its second list. Candidates from Ajay's seat Dabwali and Om Prakash Chautala's Uchana Kalan have not been declared. Sources further stated that in case of delay in the pronouncement of their appeal, Chautala's wife Vidya Devi would contest from Uchana while Ajay's wife Naina would contest from Dabwali.
