JAMMU, Aug 1: AICC (I) president Sonia Gandhi today constituted Screening Committee for forthcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Screening Committee is headed by former Union Minister and Delhi Congress leader Ajay Makan as chairman.
It has four members including Shubhankar Sarkar, Ambika Soni, AICC (I) general secretary, Incharge Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Sharief Niaz, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and PCC (I) chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz.
The Screening Committee would screen potential candidates for the Assembly elections and forward them to party high command for final approval.
The Assembly elections in the State were due in November-December this year.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad would tomorrow address one day convention of the party’s district unit at Udhampur and also visit Chenani, the site of construction of tunnel up to Nashri. He would return to New Delhi on Sunday.
