Nothing wrong if Rahul stopped mother from becoming PM: Capt Amarinder Singh

PATIALA: Reacting over the revelations made by his brother-in-law and former Union minister K Natwar Singh about Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in his autobiography, deputy leader of Congress in Parliament Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday said there was nothing wrong if Rahul Gandhi stopped his mother Sonia from becoming the prime minister in 2004.
Captain Amarinder, however, said he had not yet read Natwar's book and was making this statement on the basis of what he had read in the media.
"If they are saying that Rahulji has stopped Soniaji (from becoming PM), Rahulji has lost his father and his grandmother, and even worried for his mother?He said what he felt in his heart. There is nothing wrong if a son tells his mother to stay out of danger," said Captain Amarinder in his first remarks over the row.
The former Punjab CM said, "I have yet not read the book. I don't comment on newspaper reports or periodicals report. I have seen it only on the TV, I will further comment after reading the issue."
In a critical tone and without naming Natwar, Captain Amarinder, however, said it was wrong to make facts, which were shared among individuals with a sense of confidentiality, public.
"Second issue is that if someone confided in somebody, he or she should not reveal it in public?If somebody shares something confidential with you, then you are honour bound not to disclose it in public. If, for instance, I do it, than I will be at fault," said Amarinder, who was here to launch a campaign in support of her wife and former Union minister Preneet Kaur for Patiala assembly by-elections.
