3 college students feared drowned at Juhu beach

On Thursday, a 17-year-old boy, Rafiq Shah, drowned at the Versova beach where he had gone with two friends.

Three college students were feared to have drowned at the Juhu Beach Friday afternoon.

According to the Santacruz police, the incident took place around 4.30 pm when the boys from the Gyan Vidya Mandir College at Savarkar Nagar in Thane arrived to spend their evening at the beach. Three out of the 11 boys ventured into the sea for a swim, unaware of the tide timings.

“When the others heard noises and could not see them in the water, they raised an alarm but the boys had already been carried away by the waves,” said an officer from the Santacruz police. After college hours, the three boys, identified as Amitesh Yadav (16), Divakar Pandey (16) and Sanjeev Yadav (19), along with others had decided to spend their day at Juhu beach behind the Ramada Hotel. Police said they would investigate whether the lifeguard was at the spot when the incident took place.
