NIA gets BTAD probe extension
GUWAHATI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday was granted an extension of 90 days from the court to continue its investigation on the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) carnage in May. Over 45 people, mostly Bengali Muslims, were killed in the violence that happened after the Lok Sabha election. The NIA is investigating three cases, including two of Gobardhan police station and one of Gossaigaon police station in BTAD.
The agency was roped into the probe by the state government after several political leaders were allegedly linked to the massacre. Assam Police, which did the initial probe, said the killing was orchestrated by ultras belonging to NDFB-S.
