The Age Stage: The Twoks

The Twoks are Xani Kolac (electric violin/vocals) and Mark Leahy (drums).

The Melbourne-based duo have been making happy violin and drums dance music with a dark twist together for the past three-and-a bit years.

Their influences are mostly life's adventures, but musically-speaking, the duo listen to a lot of Sigur Ros, Kate Bush, Phoenix, Leonard Cohen and Pat Benatar.

The Twoks have played St Kilda Festival, DARK MOFO (TAS), Edinburgh Fringe Festival (UK), Woodford Folk Festival (QLD) and a stack of other gigs, clubs, parties and cities.

The pair have released three CDs, including an LP of half an hour's worth of instrumental improvisations.

Later this year they'll be putting out an EP produced by Tony Buchen (The Preatures, Andy Bull) including the single, First Light which was named "Single of the Week" by Beat magazine in February and has received airplay on Triple J's Home & Hosed, Unearthed, Weekends, 3RRR, PBS and blogs and college radio stations around the world.
