PANCHKULA: The district police have arrested three youths for allegedly kidnapping a 50-year-old man with the intent of murdering him.
Police said that Deepak, Saleem and Diaulakh tried to strangulate Babu Ram, a resident of Dharampur in Prem Pura, Pinjore, with an iron wire as they took him away in a car. According to sources, the victim, who has a strong built, resisted Deepak and Saleem; the third accused, Diaulakh, was driving the car.
He managed to break the wire with his hands. Meanwhile, the driver lost control of the car, which ultimately overturned.
Sources said that Babu Ram had fixed a property deal of Rs 24.70 lakhs with a person residing in Pinjore and he also paid Rs 2 lakh as advance money to the other party. As per the contract, they had to register the property on July 30, but the victim did not have enough money to do so.
Babu Ram offered the other party to keep the advance money as he doesn't have the complete amount yet. However, negotiations were made between both the parties and they reached a settlement. According to police, the three accused, who were brokers in the deal, were unhappy about the settlement and pressurized Babu Ram to make the payment so that they get their cut. When things did not go their way, they plotted to kill Babu Ram.
One of the accused allegedly called up the victim and told him that they can help him get a bank loan and fixed a meeting. The four men were headed towards a bank when Deepak and Saleem strangulated Babu Ram.
As the victim freed himself, he screamed for help after which public gathered at the spot and police were called.
The three youths were arrested from the spot and a sword was also recovered.
Confirming about the case, a senior police official said, "We have arrested the three youths."
Police have registered a case under sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC at Pinjore police station.
