Intelligence inputs hint at attempts to spread communal tension ahead of Assembly polls

JAMMU, July 31: With intelligence inputs hinting at attempts by the anti-national and anti-social elements to spread communal tension ahead of the Assembly elections in the State scheduled to be held later this year, Chief Secretary and Home Secretary are going to review the law and order situation in Jammu region tomorrow morning.
Authoritative sources told EXCELSIOR that Government has received reports from the intelligence agencies that anti-national and anti-social elements have been looking for the opportunities to spread communal tension in various parts of the State ahead of the Assembly elections.
“According to the intelligence agencies, the unfortunate incidents in Sheetal Nagri area of Basohli tehsil of Kathua district and in Patnitop area of Ramban district few days back were part of this larger game plan of the anti-national and anti-social elements”, sources informed.
These agencies, while cautioning of such incidents in other parts of Jammu region in near future, have made it clear to the Government that anti-social elements doesn’t want peace and communal harmony to remain intact and would make attempts to create wedge between different communities on one pretext or the other.
Laying stress on making civil and police administration alert to foil these nefarious designs of the anti-national and anti-social elements, the intelligence agencies have suggested that special attention must be paid towards the sensitive areas and all out efforts should be made to check spread of rumors, which would be the main weapon of the vested interests to foment trouble and create law and order problems, sources informed.
They disclosed that dossiers of the intelligence agencies have been shared by the State Government through the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary with all the Deputy Commissioners and District Superintendents of Police of all the districts of Jammu region with the direction to strengthen their own intelligence network.
“The Deputy Commissioners and District SPs have also been asked to act promptly on the receipt of any information aimed at fomenting communal tension so as to defuse the situation quickly and take stern action against the elements involved in creating law and order problem”, sources further informed. They have further been asked to remain in contact with the prominent citizens of the sensitive areas so as to utilize their influence in maintaining peace and harmony in case of any attempt aimed at creating law and order problem.
On the basis of these intelligence inputs and concerned over the recent incidents in Kathua and Ramban districts, Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey and Principal Secretary Home, Suresh Kumar would review law and order situation in Jammu region tomorrow morning.
The Chief Secretary and Home Secretary along with Director General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar and Secretary General Administration Department, Mushtaq Bukhari would interact with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Region, Rajesh Yadav, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu and all the Deputy Commissioners and District SPs through video-conference.
After obtaining feedback from these officers about the prevailing law and order scenario especially after the unfortunate incidents of Basohli and Patnitop, the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary would pass set of directions based on the intelligence inputs so as to ensure maintenance of peace and communal harmony and foiling the nefarious designs of the anti-national and anti-social elements.
