BANGALORE: On a day when the bandh shut down parts of the city, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and his son H D Kumaraswamy chose to dispel doubts over any shutdown of their party and vowed to work to revive the JD(S).
An unwell Deve Gowda convened the news conference on Thursday here to convey that his party was here to stay. "We didn't get the expected results in the Lok Sabha polls due to which the morale is a little low.
Some people are expressing doubts about our party's survival till the next polls. Let me tell the cynics, this party has survived several setbacks in the past. We, myself and Kumaraswamy, won't let it disintegrate at least in our lifetime," Gowda said.
Admitting that lakhs of workers in the party had become inactive, Gowda said: "The workers are there in every village. They don't want to go to any other party. Our job now is to re-energize them," he added. The party is forming teams and planning tours to strengthen the organization ahead of next year's panchayat and BBMP polls.
Soft on government: Both father and son duo admitted their party was going slow on the Congress government. "I advised him (Kumaraswamy) not to go for extreme aggression. We need cooperation of state and Tamil Nadu governments to resolve Cauvery crisis," said Gowda. Kumaraswamy added: "Everyone requires time to deliver. If they deviate from the right path, we'll take to the streets and fight."
