MUMBAI: A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act court on Thursday convicted and sentenced a man to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy last year.
The convict, Sitaram Ram, used to share a room with the survivor, his brother and another person at Cuffe Parade. Public prosecutor Sheela Jamdar said the minor deposed in court and identified Ram.
The prosecutor said the incident took place on August 30, 2013, a fortnight after the boy arrived in the city from his native place in Bihar.
As his father was dead, his brother brought him to Mumbai for his schooling. “The brother left for work at 4am. The minor was sleeping next to the convict, who forced him to have unnatural sex,” Jamdar said. She added that Ram threatened the boy with dire consequences and told him not to reveal the incident to anyone. But the next day, the boy experienced severe pain and told his uncle about the incident. The uncle took him to a private hospital from where they were directed to the Nagpada police hospital.
The doctor who examined the boy confirmed the sexual assault and a case was registered with the Cuffe Parade police on September 1, 2013. In court, the prosecution examined seven witnesses, including the boy, his brother, uncle, and the panchas.
