Ayushmann Khurrana, who plays the role of the scientist Shivkar Bapuji Talpade in the biopic Hawaizaada, will also be seen as a musician in the film. Talpade had constructed and flown India’s first unmanned airplane. Set in 1890, the film besides focussing on the professional life of Talpade, shall also focus on his personal life. Directed by Vibhu Puri, the film was shot in Mumbai and Rajkot in a town called Gondal.
Talking about the film, Puri says, “I am more concerned with the personal life of the scientist. It is more about the man who made the invention. For instance, take Albert Einstein or Mahatma Gandhi. There was more to them then, their human side which made them the men they were. Hawaizaada is the story of an underdog, about a boy who had to make the plane, about the boy who had his vices too and who falls in love with a tamasha dancer. It is the story of a simple boy who went on to make the world’s first plane, and not about the scientist who made the plane.” Ayushmann will also be seen singing a popular nazm penned by Mirza Ghalib, Dil-e-naadan which has also been composed by him. Pallavi Sharda plays a tamasha dancer in the film that is slated to release later this year.
