Shah said it was the duty of the MPs to ensure the victory of BJP nominees in the Assembly polls and bypolls.

BJP president Amit Shah Thursday called on party members of both Houses of Parliament to set up offices as well as coordination committees comprising party workers for an effective utilisation of Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds in their constituencies.

Shah, who was addressing the BJP parliamentary party for the first time after being appointed party president, said MPs should utilise their MPLADS funds effectively as the public has entrusted them with this responsibility. He said the MPs should ensure coordination committees are formed in every constituency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the meeting. Speaking to the media after the meeting, BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said Shah told the MPs this was the first time a non-Congress government had got an absolute majority in Lok Sabha. Shah said it was the duty of the MPs to ensure the victory of BJP nominees in the Assembly polls and bypolls. He said members whose states are not heading for polls would be deployed in other election-bound states.

“The new BJP president emphasized on three points — sampark (contact), samvaad (communication) and samanvay (coordination) — which should mark their relationship with voters,” Naqvi said.
