PANJIM: Goa government has deployed watchers at the turtle nesting sites as they are constantly exposed to danger due to tourism related activities along the 105km stretch of the coastal belt.
Alina Saldanha, minister for forest told Goa legislative assembly, on Thursday they have posted watchers at turtle nesting sites to preserve and protect them.
The green activists have been demanding that no touristic activities should be permitted at demarcated turtle nesting sites as the population of Olive Ridley turtles is on decline.
Morjim and Mandrem in North Goa, Galgibag and Agonda in South Goa are the main nesting sites of the Olive Ridley. Since 2012, 43 turtles were spotted at the nesting sites that laid 4349 eggs.
A major demand of the environmentalists is government should not to give permissions for shacks at turtle nesting sites or for other activity, as loud music in high decibels and lights scare and shoo turtles away.
