Police station ransacked in Hailakandi

Silchar: An irate mob ransacked the Kalacheera police outpost near Lala in Hailakandi district on Wednesday. The mob damaged the building, furniture and other property. They also torched a motorbike belonging to officer-in-charge Dwijen Sharma.
Sources said the attack was a result of the murder of Harendra Singh (37), a resident of Rajargram village near Kalacherra, by suspected miscreants on Tuesday night.
Locals accused Sharma of highhandedness and bad behaviour during a raid in the village following the incident.
The sources said police fired a few rounds in the air to quell the mob. However, no one was injured. After being informed, SP (Hailakandi) B J Sinha reached the spot and helped bring the situation under control. Police arrested Kutu Das, a villager, in connection with the murder.
