Child obesity worries in Wales prompt treats warning

More than a quarter of five year olds in Wales are overweight or obese, according to figures from public health officials in Wales.

Of the thousands of four and five year olds weighed and measured when they start school, 11% were deemed obese - higher than the worst part of England.

Children in Merthyr Tydfil were twice as likely to be obese than those in Monmouthshire, the data shows.

Linda Bailey, consultant in public health for Public Health Wales, said cutting food treats could help tackle the problem.
