Former NBA star Yao Ming and Baxsun Pharmacy were being sued by a Beijing consumer surnamed Feng on Wednesday, the Legal Evening News reports.

Feng says that By-health's fish oil capsules he purchased from Baxsun Pharmacy, are deceptively advertised by Yao Ming.

Feng asked for 10,000 yuan (1620 US dollars) in compensation from Baxsun Pharmacy, the first-mentioned defendant, who he says are exaggerating the benefits of its fish oil capsules.

He also requests that Yao, the second defendant and spokesman for the product should undertake joint liability.

Yao applied to the court for refering the case to Xuhui district of Shanghai, where his domicile is.

Beijing's Xicheng district People's Court today is handling Yao's application.
