Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao on Wednesday conducted a surprise visit at Jalasoudha, the irrigation headquarters at Irrum Manzil here, when he detected that several officers were late in reaching office.

Turning up at the office of the Engineer-in-Chief at 10.10 a.m., Mr. Rao verified the arrival time of officers section wise and the functioning of the biometric equipment to record attendance. He noted that only eight employees were present in the administrative wing at 10.40 a.m. and both the Deputy Engineers did not turn up in the library at 10.45 a.m.

Mr. Rao checked up office records and movement of files. He insisted that files not be kept pending for more than two or three days. Delay in clearing files could lead to projects falling behind and escalation in costs. The ENC Narayan Reddy informed him that introduction of biometric system improved punctuality among staff.
