Liverpool, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Everton have completed the permanent signing of striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, the Merseyside club announced on Wednesday.

Lukaku moves from Stamford Bridge to Goodison Park on a new five-year contract for a club-record transfer fee of $47 million, smashing the former record of 15 million pounds which the club paid for Belgian teammate Marouane Fellani in 2008.

"I am really excited about rejoining Everton," Lukaku said. "I had a fantastic experience last season and a great relationship with the manager, the chairman, the staff, the players and the fans. I can't wait to get started again and I'm looking forward to a successful season.

"I have a good relationship with the players. This is the place where I belong. I decided quickly I wanted to come back. Here I have the trust of the staff and supporters."

Lukaku, 21, played for the Toffees on loan from Chelsea last season and became a fan-favorite as he netted 15 goals in 35 Premier League contests.

"It's a very significant day in the history of our club. Signing Rom is every Evertonian's wish," Everton manager Roberto Martinez said. "This is a footballing statement of what we want to do. Rom will never say it but his target should be to become one of the best world-class strikers.

"The arrival of Rom is more than just a signing, it's the fruition of a lot of hard work to get the player we wanted. This is a big moment for Everton's history and the perfect way of getting the squad ready for the start of the season."
