Seeds advance with ease in state sub-junior badminton

NAGPUR: The opening day of the first Maharashtra Sub-Junior State Selection Badminton tournament looked like an extended version of the Nagpur District Championship with so many local players competing at the YMCA Hall on Wednesday.
With Almost 40-45% of the total entries from the Nagpur district, several local players clashed against each other on Day 1.
Only three events — U-13 and U-15 boys singles and U-15 girls doubles — were held on Wednesday. The rest of the events will commence at the Divisional Sports Complex in Mankapur on Thursday morning.
All the seeded players advanced to the next round without much sweat. Reigning U-13 boys singles champion Rohan Gurbani warmed up for the battles ahead with a crushing 15-3, 15-2 win over Aniket Gawande of Amravati.
Second seed Varun Dave, who lost to Rohan at the previous tourney at Nashik, sailed over his first round opponent Venkatesh Mundada of Sangli.
