MUMBAI: A man died after a tree fell on him at
Jogeshwari (E) on Wednesday, while two others were injured in a similar incident in Khar.
Santosh Pande (32) had halted his bike to answer his cellphone when the tree collapsed on him, killing him instantly. Pande lived in Jogeshwari (E) with his mother, wife and two kids. He worked in a computer shop and was his family’s sole breadwinner.
Passersby alerted the police, who called Pande’s relatives and friends. A friend said, “Police should probe if the
BMC is at fault for not maintaining the tree.”
The BMC pays a
compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the family of those killed in tree collapses. “We will confirm if the death is due to
tree collapse,” said joint municipal commissioner SS Shinde. In the last 24 hours, 53 tree collapses were reported in Mumbai.
