Growing wealth boosts Southeast Asia condo demand

Condominium complexes are going up all over central Jakarta.

TOKYO/SINGAPORE -- Demand for condos is growing in Southeast Asia's urban areas as the growing number of wealthier consumers look for investments or for the convenience of living in the center of town.

Southeast Asian families generally live in single houses with all their immediate relatives. But recently there is a growing trend toward nuclear family lifestyles, especially in cities. Many of these people live in condos. "Changes in people's lifestyles are diversifying the types of houses they look for," said a worker at an Indonesian real estate company.
