At a preview with actress Parvathy Omanakuttan, we got a sneak peek of designer Shruti Sancheti’s collection that will pay tribute to luxurious silk on Textile Day of the forthcoming Lakme Fashion Week Autumn Winter.
At a preview in Mumbai, actress Parvathy Omanakuttan (seen recently in the film Pizza) showcased a stunning a black silk gown with a woven yoke, from her new collection.

Her collection titled Strands Of Silk is an ode to the glorious and sumptuous fibre and its connotations of luxury, festivity and extravagance . Silk is the textile of celebration and this mood is beautifully reflected in each of Shruti’s designs. The base fabric of the collection comprises of Benarasi woven fabric in vibrant colours, woven intricately with zari along with exquisite Pochampali, a distinguished complex weave to give the collection a pan Indian flavour. Raw silk, cotton silk, woven silk, makhmaal have been used as variants to add more character to this rich line, deeply rooted in heritage.
Colour palette: The colour palette is vibrant and festive, comprising of crimson, vermillion, cherry, carmine, wine, aubergine, burnt orange, saffron, alphonso, fuchsia and indigo blue. Rich, intricate hand embroidery in form of zardozi, cutwork, resham, and kasab have been used to impart a regal feel.
Silhouettes and construction: The silhouettes are luxurious, voluminous yet have construction and structure. Sharara jumpsuits, a half crop-half chuga jacket, palazzo pants, circular and pleated anarkalis along with various constructed jackets and blouses are the few key points of the collection. Fine detailing like tucks, ribs, pleating along with customised wrought iron hangings and buttons and detachable hand embroidered jewellery give the collection a contemporary twist with an Indian soul.
Says Sancheti, “My collection is meant for the vivacious woman who celebrates her unsurpassed legacy of textiles and craftsmanship and yet has a voguish approach to fashion. Who believes in timeless clothes yet is trendy and believes in understated luxury and restrained opulence and rejoices and celebrates her festivities to the fullest”.
