VADODARA: The city witnessed heavy rainfall on Tuesday leading to waterlogging at several areas. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast heavy rains following which the district administration had issued an alert on Monday evening. The rains left many of the city's roads submerged in knee-deep waters. Areas like Alkapuri, Gorwa, Wadi, Raopura, Mandvi-Gendigate Road and Waghodia were waterlogged which threw normal life out of gear.
According to district administration, the city received 25mm of rainfall from 8 am to 6 pm on Tuesday while Dabhoi received 33mm and Savli 21mm of rains.
Those staying in western areas had to take longer routes as Sayajigunj-Alkapuri underpass was shut down due to waterlogging. Fire brigade officials said two trees gave away on R V Desai Road and Bajwada area following heavy rains, but no injury was reported. One person,Nanji Valand, died in Raopura after he suffered from electric shock while working on an electricity pole. An incident of drainage pipeline collapse was reported at Warasia-Ring Road but no one was injured. Though on alert, administration is relieved as the water levels in Ajwa Lake and Vishwamitri river are below danger level. The water level in Ajwa was recorded at 211.75 feet and Vishwamitri way below the danger level at 14.6 feet.
