Hungary unemployment rate remained unchanged in June, after easing in the previous seven months, figures from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Wednesday.
The jobless rate was 8 percent in the three months to June, unchanged from the March to May period. Economists had expected the rate to climb to 8.3 percent. The 8 percent jobless rate was the lowest since December 2008. In the January to March period, the unemployment rate was 8.3 percent.
Meanwhile, the youth jobless rate, which applies to the 15-24 age group, rose to 20 percent in June from 19.4 percent in the previous month. In the first quarter, the figure was 21.4 percent.
In the three months to June, the total number of unemployed was 358,900, which was more than the 356,900 logged in the previous month. The figure for youth unemployment also moved higher, climbing to 64,100 from 61,300. In the January to March period, the number of unemployed was 369,700.
The statistical office also released the employment data for the second quarter that showed a 190,000 annual increase in the number of employed to 4.12 million. The number of employed among the youth also grew, totaling 257,000. In the first quarter, the total number of employed was 4.11 million.
