The social welfare and education department has decided to track the attendance records of students in schools in a bid to check trafficking in the district.

GUMLA: The social welfare and education department has decided to track the attendance records of students in schools in a bid to check trafficking in the district.
The idea was put forth by Gumla SP Bhimsen Tuti soon after girls from a village in Gumla was recently trafficked to metro cities.
Tuti said, "The attendance of pupils will be monitored in the school.
If a pupil is found to be absent for a long period of time, the headmaster will contact the family members of the student concerned. He will also report the matter to a three-member committee, comprising the block development officer (BDO), block education officer (BEO) and CDPO, for further investigation."
S N Tigga, district superintendant of education (DSE) of Gumla, said: "A block-level committee comprising BDO, block education extention officer (BEEO) and CDPO has been constituted to look the absence of children from 8-days to a fortnight from the school.
Before this in- charge head masters of government schools will look at the attendance of students every day and if a student fails to attend classes for a week or a more period, he will visit house of the pupil and inquire about him.
If a student is not found in the house, he will report to the committee and thereafter the committee will take the matter upon itself, he said adding that he has directed BEEOs to issue letters to the schools with immediate effect.
Generally , parents come to police station complaining that their children had been taken out by some one after months and some times even after 2- 5 years, said the SP.
Cases of trafficking will be tracked in the initial stage and police will will deal with the menance at the earliest, Tuti said.
