Liebenberg all heart: Nathan

A BIG heart is what motivated Colin Nathan to welcome "inept" boxer Ryno Liebenberg to his HotBox Gym in Glenhazel, north of Johannesburg.

"Before he came to my establishment, the talk was that Ryno has no skills and his defence was porous. The only positive thing said about him was that he had power," Nathan told Sowetan yesterday.

"That was three years ago. But Ryno showed me one thing that many fighters do not have - a big heart to go all the way. We went back to basics, tightened his defence and we won 10 fights in a row."

Nathan guided the lion-hearted fighter from Krugersdorp to the IBO All Africa, IBO Intercontinental, WBC International Silver as well WBC International light-heavyweight belts.

Nathan and Liebenberg are gunning for their fifth title on August 9 when the boxer takes on Russian Denis Grachev for the WBC Silver title at Emperors Palace. The fight will headline Golden Gloves Promotion's Silver Salvo programme.

"We are increasing the level of opposition at the right pace," explained Nathan.
