Proposals that never saw the light of day

Real estate developers as well as authorities here led flat buyers in Noida Extension – referred to as Greater Noida West following a major land row – to believe that Metro connectivity would soon be a reality, whereas it appears no such project is in the works, homeowners have alleged.

While a Noida Authority official insisted that a line between Sector 71 and Noida Extension was in the pipeline, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which is working with the authority on other projects, said it was not aware of any such plan.

“There are three lines in the works for Noida, one of them from Sector 71 to Noida Extension. The DMRC is working on the detailed project reports,” said a senior Noida Authority official.

However, the DMRC said if such a project was planned it had nothing to do with it. “We are not aware of this proposal, it could be the Uttar Pradesh Government’s own plan,” said a DMRC source.

According to media reports two years ago, the Noida Authority had announced this line to facilitate travel to the Noida Extension area, which was seeing a real estate boom.

“This was a marketing gimmick by the Noida Authority and developers to convince people into buying houses,” said Abhishek Kumar, the president of the Noida Extension Flat Owner Welfare Association.

Mr. Kumar said there were 75 projects in the area, with 3.5 lakh flats. “We are hoping that the government does bring in such a plan, even though it is not there now since the delivery of flats has started and people will start moving in soon,” he said.

The association had met the Urban Development Minister in the previous Union Government and will be seeking appointment with the current Minister Venkaiah Naidu to raise their problems.
