PATIALA: A pall of gloom descended on Gardinagar village in Banur block of Patiala after three kids drowned in a pond on Tuesday. All the victims were in the age group of 11 years to 12 years.
The incident took place when the three, along with their friends, went to take bath in the village pond, which is around 12 feet deep, in the afternoon. Sources said the victims – Gurdhian Singh, Nitin Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar – belonged to poor families.

“The three did not come out after they jumped into the pond. Nitin’s brother Hira and friend Shiv, who accompanied them, immediately rushed to the village and told the elders. The kids were fished out after several minutes,” said Shambhu station house officer Mahinder Singh.
He said the villagers took kids to Gian Sagar Medical College, Banur, where doctors declared them brought dead.
