Susan Sarandon admits to affair with rock legend David Bowie

Susan Sarandon says she had a steamy affair with musician David Bowie back in the day and that his rock-star status is totally justified.

The actress, who split from Tim Robbins in 2009 after 23 years together, says that while she didn’t hook up with many famous men in her heyday, the ones that she did get involved with were worth it, according to Us Weekly.

“Yeah, he’s worth idolizing,” she said. “He’s extraordinary. Bowie’s just a really interesting person, and so bright. He’s a talent, and a painter, and… he’s great.”

Sarandon says the reason why she didn’t get the chance to dabble in the Hollywood dating pool was because she married her college sweetheart, Chris Sarandon, in 1979. “In terms of hooking up with movie stars, I got married really young, which knocked out most of my 20s to be f***ing around,” she told The Daily Beast via Us last week. “There have been a couple famous, pretty interesting ones. One rock star (Bowie) and another actor. But I pretty much tend to be monogamous.”

The Thelma & Louise star has spoken previously of her tendency towards monogamy. “I’ve always liked the idea of choosing to be with somebody,” Sarandon told People back in 2010 of her long-term relationship with Robbins. “I thought if you didn’t get married, you wouldn’t take each other for granted so easily. I don’t know if after twentysomething years that was still true.”

And though her rendezvous with Bowie dates back to 1983 when the couple was working together on a horror film called The Hunger, some of Sarandon’s traits are still lingering from the era. The thespian admitted to Andy Cohen last December that she utilizes a little bit of wacky tobacky to calm her nerves before major award shows. When asked by Cohen to name one major Hollywood event she had showed up to stoned, Sarandon laughed, “Only one? I would say almost all except the Oscars.”
