After schools, MCG now plans to build colleges
GURGAON: After making plans to construct a senior secondary school of its own, the MCG is now planning to build colleges in the city.
The officials said they have identified three locations where these colleges will come up. They said that while there are only a handful of colleges in the city, students are forced to travel long distances for higher education.
The school project, which was announced last December, is, however, yet to take off.
The MCG commissioner and mayor held a meeting last week with principals of all three government colleges in the city and extended help to construct modern hostel facilities in all of them. "There is a dire need for new colleges in Gurgaon. There are hardly three or four government colleges and the same number of private ones, which charge hefty amount from the students.
This is a serious concern which needs to be addressed immediately," said Vimal Yadav, the mayor. "We have identified three places in the city - Badshapur, Jahazgarh and Kherki Majra - and decided that these places will be used for building colleges alone. Cost, design and other factors will be decided shortly. We want these colleges to be multi-disciplinary
," said Yadav. MCG officials also said they were planning to build primary schools in the old city. "Councillors have been demanding that MCG build primary schools like the ones run by Delhi municipal corporation. We will talk to the state government and seek its advice on the matter," said an official.
