NCW slams cops over 'refusal' to file FIR
GURGAON: The National Commission for Women has decided to send a legal notice to Gurgaon Police for their refusal to file a woman's complaint against her husband. Shalini (name changed) had approached the Civil Lines police station on June 28 to lodge a complaint against her husband, Karthik Sharma, who allegedly threatened her and made dowry demands.
Assistant sub-inspector Saroj of the Civil Lines police station asked Shalini to lodge an FIR with the DLF Phase III police chowki given that she temporarily resides there.

Shalini alleged that the sub-inspector in the DLF Phase III police chowki told her to go back to her home town, Ambala, and ask her parents to file a complaint.
On approaching the DLF Phase III police chowki again on June 30, with a handwritten complaint against Karthik Sharma detailing the abuse and demands for dowry, Shalini alleged that she was made to wait outside the police station for over an hour and was harassed.
Shalini also alleged that she was made to rewrite her complaint in Hindi using obscene words and both her complaints - in English and Hindi - were finally torn up by sub-inspector Rajpal Yadav. Shalini approached the National Commission for Women on July 28 to demand strict action against the Gurgaon police.
Mamta Sharma, chairperson, National Commission for Women said that a legal notice will be issued to the Gurgaon Police. "We have run several sensitization programs for the police but the scenario does not seem to change. The state police for UP and Haryana are the most insensitive when it comes to crime against women", said Sharma.
