Running may be linked with significant increases in life span, according to a new study from researchers at the Iowa State University. For the study the researchers collected health data from 55,000 adults aged 18 to 100 over a 15-year period.

Roughly one quarter of the participants associated as a runners. They found that those who ran even very small amounts had a 30 percent decreased risk of death from any cause and a 45 percent decreased risk of death from heart related incidents.

"People may not need to run a lot to get health benefits," the researchers explained. "I hope this study can motivate more people to start running and to continue running as an attainable health goal."
