Isetan Mitsukoshi to offer duty-free shopping in Tokyo

The Mitsukoshi department store in Ginza is a hot spot for foreign visitors.

TOKYO -- Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings will join hands with the operators of Narita and Haneda airports to open a duty-free store in its flagship Ginza location as early as next fiscal year.

Many department stores and home electronics stores may sell goods without sales taxes, but goods at airport duty-free shops are exempt from tariffs as well as alcohol and tobacco taxes. The new store will fall into the latter category, making it the first of its kind within Tokyo.
